Nick Demopoulos' Smomid
Nick Demopoulos is a guitarist and composer originally from Los Angeles and now based in New York. His electronic jazz group "Exegesis" has performed throughout the United States, Europe, the Middle East and have just released their 2nd full length recording "The Harmony of the Anomaly." In 2008 "Exegesis" was chosen to participate in a Cultural Exchange program, sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the U.S. Department of State, and performed in Bahrain, Oman, Yemen, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. Nick has also been playing with NEA Jazz master and Jazz legend Chico Hamilton and plays guitar on Chico's most recent releases, "Revelations" and "Euphoric."
In 2009, in an attempt to bridge his knowledge of stringed instruments with interactive computer performance, Nick built the "Smomid," a String Modeling Midi Device. This special controller allows the performer to play melodies, trigger samples, control beats, basslines and much more. For In/Out fest 2011 he will be performing with longtime collaborator Lizzy Yoder.
Lizzy Yoder is a vocalist and performer who has been a part of the New York music and performance scene for almost two decades. She was one of the founding members of the performance show band Sweet Thunder, and one of the original core members of the Electroclash art band, Fischerspooner for seven years, traveling all over the world and recording on several major labels. Since then, she has worked and recorded as a guest vocalist with Cymbals Eat Guitars, International Fiction, The Crystal Ark (DFA), and most recently performed with LCD Soundsystem for their farewell series of shows in NYC. She is currently recording an album through Converse Rubber Tracks studio program, to be released in the Summer of 2012.
